Torchmark/American Income Life Insurance Company

Torchmark/American Income Life Insurance Company is striving to become the premier in-home life insurance sales company serving working families in the United States, Canada and New Zealand.Building on our solid foundation of providing supplemental benefits to working families, it is with great pride that we serve our customers by building long-term relationships and providing coverage for times that are most difficult in life. We rejoice as we continue our "personal touch" tradition not often found in the insurance industry today - meeting with our patrons in the place they are most comfortable... their home.

With just $25,000 of borrowed capital, Bernard Rapoport founded Torchmark/American Income Life more than 50 years ago. Today, it has become one of the nation's largest providers of supplemental life insurance to labor unions, credit unions, and associations. AIL provides coverage to over two million policyholders and represents over $90 million in annual insurance product sales. Our company's growth has been sustained through high customer satisfaction, innovative lead programs, word of mouth referrals, and one of the most lucrative Agent compensation programs in the industry.

A.M. Best, one of the country's oldest and most respected insurance ratings company, has rated American Income Life as A+ (Superior) for overall Financial Strength (as of 6/09). American Income is licensed in 49 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, and New Zealand. Our subsidiary company, National Income Life Insurance Company, is licensed in the state of New York. American Income Life's executive offices are located in Waco, Texas. AIL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Torchmark Corporation (NYSE: TMK), based in McKinney, Texas. American Income Life was sold to Torchmark Corporation in 1994.

In June 1966, the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) organized the home office staff, making AIL the only insurance company with all union employees. In October 1973, the company was granted an official designation as a Union Label company by the AFL-CIO. AIL was one of only two insurance companies in the entire United States with the official Union Label. American Income Life paid $1.3 million in lay-off waivers in 2010. This is the waiver AIL provides if a policyholder goes on strike and is unable to make their payments. American Income Life also paid a total of $124.4 million in life and health claims for 2010.

With over $1.9 billion in assets, we put our money where our mouth is. We have invested millions of dollars in progressive causes our policy holders believe in. We make contributions to organizations like Economic Policy Institute, Campaign for America's Future, American Rights at Work, and Project VOTE. They research, analyze and propose solutions on fair trade, good jobs, health care reform, environmental sustainability, and electing fair-minded candidates.  We provide millions in contributions through educational scholarships at adult learning centers and traditional universities. Our home office staff, who are covered under an Office and Professional Employees International Union collective bargaining contract, volunteer as reading tutors in Waco, Texas.

We have loyalty to over two million policyholders. With over $29.6 billion of supplemental life insurance in force, we stand behind our products and our policy holders. Through our lay-off waiver of premiums and strike waivers, working families can expect to keep their coverage when they are most in need.
